[27th May] Earlier this year, Crystal Dynamics revealed the news of their new development studio, Crystal Southwest, based in Austin, Texas!
While we don't know much about this newly established company, we do know a little about their future.
On the Crystal Dynamics website, the developers teased that "Crystal Southwest will be a major part of all current and future Crystal Dynamics titles." Both Tomb Raider and the Marvel's Avengers franchise were both series mentioned as a draw to potential candidates who are looking to join the studio. At present, while they aren't hiring for specific job roles, they have got a general application for those looking to join a brand new studio.
Leading the company is Dallas Dickinson, an industry veteran who has more than two decades of experience working in the games industry on AAA games. Dickinson originally started work at Crystal Dynamics back in October 2019 as the studio's Executive Producer, before taking the lead at Crystal Southwest. Prior to his work at Crystal, he was the CEO of QC Games for almost five years, and was the Director of Production at Bioware for almost seven years before that. He is joined by other (yet undisclosed) Crystal Dynamics names, who are "already hard at work".
The studio has been growing considerably in recent years, with Crystal Northwest, based in Bellevue, Washington, founded in August 2018. At present, little is known about Crystal Northwest or Crystal Southwest; with no social media presence and no website, it's clear that Crystal Dynamics considers its main headquarters to be in the Bay Area. Although we're looking forward to hearing more about these new studios in the future.
