This past month, Square Enix announced plans that they will be expanding both Square Enix Montréal (developer of "Lara Croft Go") and Eidos Montréal (developer of "Shadow of the Tomb Raider"), with 100 new jobs and a renovation of their offices.
The news came as part of a joint announcement between Shinzō Abe (Japan's Prime Minster) and Justin Trudeau (Canada's Prime Minister) as they announced a closer relationship between the two countries.
The announcement was made in a joint-conference and later reported on via the Canadian government website which stated that the two companies "represent together nearly 700 well-paying jobs, the group's largest development units outside of Japan. The group plans to continue to create jobs for Canadians over the next five years. In 2019, the group will finance the expansion and renovation of its facilities, and will create more than 100 additional jobs." The changes will see the mobile developer "double in size" as they move towards creating free-to-play adventures.
When it comes to the expansion and renovation of the studio, Eidos Montréal will be expanding their 55,000 square-foot space to include an additional 10,000 square-foot, and adding additional facilities so that more can be done in-house. These additions include a new motion capture studio, a photogrammetry space, a user research lab, and a mixing and voice recording studio.
