[January 25th 2021] As part of our continuing coverage of the positive news that we missed earlier in the year, we're back with another article, this time focusing on the upcoming Tomb Raider movie sequel!

It's been three years since Tomb Raider, starring Alica Vikander, came to cinemas. While planning for the movie has been underway, it's not been the smoothest of journeys so far. In addition to Covid-19 impacting the project, the film has also seen a number of changes behind the scenes.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Amy Jump was hired in April 2019 to write a script for the potential sequel, with Vikander in mind to return. Later that same year, Ben Wheatley signed on to take the mantel of director once again, with Laurie Rose rumoured to join him as the film's cinematographer. While originally pencilled in for a March 19th 2021 launch, Covid quickly impacted plans as global restrictions and an unpredictable path through the pandemic brought uncertainty.

The new director and writer for the Tomb Raider sequel, Misha Green

However, back in late January (2021), it looks like the sequel is finally getting underway. While Wheatley and Jump have since departed the project, it has since been announced that Misha Green, best known for her work on Lovecraft Country has stepped up to be the film's director and writer.

Following the announcement, Green took to Twitter to share her enthusiasm for the franchise, particularly for Tomb Raider Legend, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Her tweet was also flourished with emojis teasing the elements she associates with Lara's adventures including a t-rex, dual pistols, and mountains.
