Saturday 2 November 2019

Extra Life is back this weekend, and Team Tomb Raider Community, captained by the ever-brilliant Stella Lune, is getting geared up for another year of incredible fundraising. The main event is taking part over the weekend (2nd-3rd November) which marks the official start of the marathons, but a number of team members are also planning to hold additional fundraising streams throughout the month, so make sure to keep an eye out for those! All of this is being arranged to raise awareness and funds for The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

About Extra Life

This year marks the eleventh anniversary of the Extra Life marathon initiative. Started in 2008, Extra Life began as a way of honoring Victoria Enmon who battled acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. After her passing in January of that year, the event was set up to raise money for the hospital (Texas Children’s Hospital) which had cared for her so that it can help other children facing similar situations. The follow year, Extra Life expanded and in 2009, more than a hundred websites and 12,000 donors supported the campaign. In response to worldwide attention and support, the campaign turned its attention to raising money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals so that more children like Victoria can get the medical help they need.

 Where The Money Will Go

By donating in this year's Extra Life your money will go towards caring for children in hospitals across the United States and Canada. Every minute, 62 children enter the hospitals and the donations received throughout the livestreams provide help for children regardless of whether or not they have health insurance. The money also helps the hospitals improve and maintain the level of care by paying for training, research and equipment. The Children's Miracle Network consists of 170 hospitals which provide 32 million treatments. The Raffle.
In addition to the livestreams, Stella has worked tirelessly to bring what has to be the best raffle we've seen for Extra Life!

Included in the raffle is a hand-painted Gaming Heads Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft statue, PLUS The Art of Tomb Raider Box Set by Dreams and Visions Press; two major collector's items!

If you've yet to play Tomb Raider Legends Board Game or Shadow of the Tomb Raider, both of those items are also up for grabs with the latter being available for any platform the winner selects. There are also a number of other amazing prizes including the Loot Gaming Exclusive T-Shirt and Figure pack (2), the Tomb Raider Coloring Book, the Classic Tomb Raider Collectible Card Game Quest Set (3), the Shadow of the Tomb Raider Art Book, and a Lara Croft Barbie.
And if that wasn't enough, there are also a number of donated items. For art admirers, the talented Taryn Platt has created and donated a pair of stained glass inspired artwork featuring both classic and reboot Lara. Kelly from Tomb Raider Horizons has also donated a signed Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris Lithograph! Square Enix Montréal donated two Lara Croft Go view-masters. Jeffrey procured the Shadow of the Tomb Raider Totaku Figurine. Last year, Crystal Dynamics also donated two Rise of the Tomb Raider Razer DeathAdder Chroma Mouses which were lovingly stored for this year. Plus three winners will get a "Mystery Treasure Box" filled with goodies donated by Crystal and Tom of Lara Croft Online.

But there's also another piece which required its own paragraph. In addition to some of the very best merchandise, there's also the best of the worst. It is, of course, the infamous 1997 Toy Biz Video Game Super Stars Lara Croft figurine. The scale and the design is so bizarre, that it makes you both nostalgic for the 90s and also fearful of them.

The raffle is open to all Tomb Raider fans over the age of thirteen, not just those who are able to donate, however those that do receive an additional entry for every $10 given (up to 11 entries/$100). Entries will be accepted from now until November 28th.

Team Tomb Raider Community will be playing throughout the weekend to raise money for a number of hospitals under the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals umbrella. At time of writing they have just smashed their 2019 target of $3,055! If you want to donate, make sure to check out their team page, HERE
