[February 1st 2021] Ten years ago, Crystal Dynamics teamed up with eight international artists to create a special collection of Tomb Raider artwork for the series' fifteenth year. This year, to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary, they're going even further by working with eleven artists who will be reimagining the game's iconic covers, in their own style.

As Crystal is dedicating each month to a specific title, each of the artists involved in the project have been assigned a specific game to focus on, with artwork being released on a (rough) four-week basis.

Kickstarting the year of festivities is Brenoch Adams! Brenoch has worked at Crystal Dynamics for the past thirteen years, with a CV spanning over six Tomb Raider games; making him the perfect and natural choice to start the project.

Being the first artist also means focusing on that debut game, and for the piece, he focused on the most iconic scene, the Lost Valley. Talking about the piece and Brenoch describes how he got started, "the original Tomb Raider’s box art is iconic and memorable for many people who were inspired by the landmark gaming experience when it was released in 1996. My approach to re-designing the art was to modernize the image, but not move in a wildly different direction."

"The pose is one of reaction and asymmetry, keeping Lara in the center of the frame as the original art intended. The spirit of adventure and powerful courageousness is an important component to the overall image, and the addition of some of the game’s most iconic enemies seemed fitting to fulfill that idea."

"Lara’s wardrobe is updated to be practical and customized to her character yet remains faithful to the timeless look of the original outfit. Even now, after almost 10 years of working on Tomb Raider games, I am captivated by the ongoing story of Lara Croft and her inspiring adventures."

You can download his work on the official Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary website!
