This past year has been fairly quiet in terms of major releases, but still packed with a lot of "Tomb Raider" goodness from new merchandise in the form of comic volumes and figures, to the release of new "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" DLC packs. 2019 was also the twentieth anniversary for "Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation"!


Here's a list of some of the brilliant stuff that has happened over the past twelve months:


9th January- Dark Horse's "Tomb Raider Volume 4: Inferno" Released

2019 kicked off with a book launch! "Tomb Raider Volume 4: Inferno" sees Lara track down Trinity to Antarctica. The book spans 104 pages, with a story by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and art by Phillip Sevy, Michael Atiyeh, and Hannah Templer.

23rd January - Shadow of the Tomb Raider's "The Nightmare" DLC Released

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider's third DLC pack, "The Nightmare", Lara must explore a twisted Croft Manor in a dream filled with familiar faces and demons, in her own personalized horror.

11th February - "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" Joins XBOX Game Pass

In early February, Square Enix and Microsoft announced a continuation of their partnership as "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" joined the XBOX Game Pass just five months after it's launch

12th February - Shadow of the Tomb Raider's "Price of Survival" DLC Released

The day after "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" joined the XBOX Game Pass, Square Enix Montréal released the "Price of Survival" DLC which sees Lara try to crack the private codes of Trinity's leader.

14th February - Angela Song's Valentine Day Artwork

Crystal Dynamics teamed up with local artist, Angela Song, for a series of hand-painted Valentine Day cards. Puns suggested were submitted to the Tomb Raider Twitter page with the top three selected as art prompts.

14th February - Kate Sykes Releases Debut Fan Film, "Athena" 

Cosplay Ambassador and fansite owner, Kate Sykes published her first official Tomb Raider fan film, "Athena", which tells the story of Lara's daughter, who is trusted to protect a treasure kept locked in Croft Manor.

14th February - "Tomb Raider Coloring Book" Released

Coinciding with Lara Croft's birthday, Dark Horse published a Tomb Raider colouring book featuring line art submitted by artists in the community, including Illyne, Loïc Leroy, Libbey O’Gorman, Maxim Ragey, and Inna Soko. (Source)

19th February - "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" Sales Surpasses 4.12m Units

In late Febuary, it was announced that "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" sold 4.12 million units before December 31st 2018, a total revealed in Sqaure Enix Q3 financial report to investors.

5th March - Shadow of the Tomb Raider's "The Serpent Heart" DLC Released

In early March, fans got a taste of the fourth DLC pack for "Shadow of the Tomb Raider". The DLC pack came with the Dragon Scales outfit, the Serpent Lash bow, and the Divine Bounty skill.

8th March - International Women’s Day 2019

Crystal Dynamics celebrated International Women's Day with a team photo shoot showcasing the amazing female developers at the studio.

19th March - "The Making of A Tomb Raider" Posted Online

Originally shown in select US cinemas on September 12th,  BASE jumper Clair Marie steps into Lara's boots in an hour-long production called "The Making of a Tomb Raider". In mid-March, the full film was published online by the studio.

20th March - Nvidia Ray-Tracing Trailer for SOTTR Released

In late March, Nvidia revealed a new trailer showcasing "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" with ray-tracing, provided by the Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 Series.

22nd March - "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" Wins Two G.A.N.G Awards

At the G.A.N.G Awards 2019, "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" took home three amazing awards including "Best Original Soundtrack Album", "Best Interactive Score", and "Best Game Audio Publication, Presentation, or Broadcast".

29th March - Shadow of the Tomb Raider's "The Grand Caiman" DLC Released

In late March, Shadow of the Tomb Raider's fifth DLC pack, "The Grand Caiman" launched! In the new adventure players delved into a volcano in a bid to defeat a ferocious deity.

2nd April - Delving Into "Tomb Raider Archives" with Devanté

In early April, we spoke to the lovely Devanté Jones, producer and lead actor in the fan film "Tomb Raider Archives", an ambitious and gorgeously filmed production.

23rd April - Shadow of the Tomb Raider's "The Path Home" DLC Released

The Path Home's released marked the seventh and last DLC pack for "Shadow of the Tomb Raider". In the new level, Lara must go in search for missing friends following the events of the game.

30th April - Positively Tomb Raider's 1st Anniversary

We celebrated Positively Tomb Raider's first anniversary in late April. Thank you for all of the support and love you've given us this past year!

5th May - Stella Celebrates "Tomb Raider VI: The Last Revelation" Revision

Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation", Stella from Stella's Tomb Raider Walkthroughs had been working with @TREldin to revise her guide for the game. She celebrated the end with a community giveaway!

18th May - Tomb Raider Marathon IV Raises $1022.01 For Help Hope Live

The team behind Tomb Raider Marathon was back with another brilliant marathon, raising money for US-based organisation, Help Hope Live. By the end of the campaign, they raised over one thousand dollars!

May - Square Enix Announces Expansion to Montréal Studios

In May, news broke that Square Enix Montréal and Eidos Montréal, would be expanding, a decision which would see 100 new jobs and office renovations to both studios.

6th June - Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy Coming to Stadia

Months ahead of Google Stadia's launch, the company announced a number of titles coming to the platform including "Tomb Raider" (2013), "Rise of the Tomb Raider", and "Shadow of the Tomb Raider".

10th June - Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers Announced

During the Square Enix press conference at E3, Crystal Dynamics revealed the first glimpse of their latest project in collaboration with Marvel! While "Marvel's Avengers" was announced back in January 2017, the studio had been quiet since.

June - Community Celebrates Pride Month

June was Pride Month, and the Tomb Raider community celebrated with wonderful new artwork and tributes!

June - Tomb Raider Legends - The Board Game Released

Developed by Hobby Japan Co, "Tomb Raider Legends - The Board Game" launched in June, allowing between three to four friends to excavate hidden cyrpts from the safety of their living room.

12th July - Core Design Founder, Chris Shrigley, To Receive Honorary Degree

In early July, the University of Derby announced the six people from Derbyshire that would be receiving honourary degrees for their success , both in the local area and abroad. Among the names was Chris Shrigley, one of the co-founders of Core Design.

24th July - "Tomb Raider Omnibus Volume 1" Released

Dark Horse published their "Tomb Raider Omnibus Volume 1" in late July. The publication of the volume sees Tomb Raider's Dark Horse comics #1 - #18 in striking colour, spanning over 450 pages.

24th August - Square Enix Montréal's Extra Life Campaign Raises $11,575 CAD For Extra Life

For the second year in a row, Square Enix Montréal took part in the Extra Life campaign with all of the money going towards Opération Enfant Soleil. With the goal of $10,000 CAD, they smashed it, raising instead $11,575.

1st September - Devanté Jones' Fanfilm, The Silver Box, Released

In September, filmmaker and cosplay extraordinaire, Devanté Jones (also known as DJ Croft), was back with another brilliant fan film entitled "Tomb Raider: The Silver Box".

9th September - Tomb Raider Movie Sequel In The Works

After months of rumours, it was finally announced that the community would be seeing another "Tomb Raider" film starring Alicia Vikander, who made her debut adventure as the adventurer in 2018

10th September - Raymond Releases 4K Fan Trailer "Tomb Raider: Wrath of Seth"

Tomb Raider Cosplay Ambassador, Raymond Croft, released a two-minute long 4K fan trailer inspired by "Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation" called "Tomb Raider: Wrath of Seth".

15th September - Lara Croft Gains Derby Walk of Fame Star

Celebrating local talent, Derby City Council unveiled their second walk of fame path, featuring eight local celebrities whose names are now embellished in cast-iron and marble plaques.

10th October - World Mental Health Day 2019

To mark World Mental Health Day, we spoke to  Kelly (from Tomb Raider Horizons), Noelle (of Critical Hit), Alonzorion (of Alonzorion's Blind Let's Plays), and Lodair (of Croft World and Tomb Raider Brasil) about how they balance their hobbies.

15th October - First Glimpse: "Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition"

In October we got our first glimpse of "Shadow of the Tomb Raider : Definitive Edition", complete with a new trailer and new promotional artwork. 

2nd November - Team Tomb Raider Community Raises $5,267 For Extra Life

This year, Team Tomb Raider Community wass back for an eighth year. Joining Stella was a roster of twenty three fans who livestreamed across the weekend, all to raise money for The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

5th November - "Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition" Launches

"Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition" launched today! Fans who had previously purchased the Season Pass would receive the Definitive Edition update featuring "Croft Fitness" a new outfit inspired by "Tomb Raider II".

10th November - Tomb Raider Marathon V Raises $1,156.40 USD

The Tomb Raider Marathon team was back for their final campaign of 2019! With St. Jude's Children Research Hospital at the heart of the team's efforts, and with sixteen fantastic streamers set for to help with fundraising, this event raised $1,156.40!

19th November - Google Stadia Launches 

Today, Google Stadia launched! The streaming platform allows players to be able to access their games and play them anywhere they go. The service launched with the recent "Tomb Raider" trilogy available on their store.

19th November - "Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation" Turns 20!

2019 marked twenty years since "Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation"! The beloved game was developed by Core Design in a year, an ambitious challenge especially considering the project's scale.

21st November - Temple of Osiris Gaming Heads Statue Released

GamingHeads was back with another statue as part of their 20th anniversary run. This time it was "Temple of Osiris" turn in the spotlight, and the latest figure brought some electricity to the party with the model featuring a light up torch.

9th December - Shadow of the Tomb Raider Soundtrack Announced on Vinyl

Closing out the year, we heard news that Shadow of the Tomb Raider's soundtrack was coming to vinyl. Featuring twenty eight tracks by Brian D'Oliveira, the vinyl is being made by Laced Records and will launch in February.
